How do I watch recorded TV on my PC? getting error message!

Hello all, like the title says, how do I watch recorded TV on my PC?

The thing is my modem is actually my TV box also and connected to my PC via Ethernet cable, when I open windows media player I open "Other Libraries" and I can see my recordings from my TV but when I click play it sometimes acts like it's loading but doesn't and sometimes says -

"Windows media player encountered a problem while downloading the file"

If you are recording to a PVR as part of your TV setup the resulting files may not be playable on other devices such as your PC. The encoding of the files may be locked to only play on the PVR.
