How much is an original gateway 4300 worth ?

hi I am restoring a gateway 3400 original with up grade to windows xp and 2g more ram and wireless along with web cam and microphone whats the worth I should ask for ?

the only thing i could find for specs is that it supports a pentium 3 CPU so i would say $50.00 . 100 if you are lucky. have seen local computer store out my way that sells old 2.8ghz IBM desktops for 150.00 but those system's have P4 CPU's in them

If it has a Pentium 3 in it it's worthless. You can't even watch HD youtube videos on it. In all honesty unless you find someone wanting to play with obsolete tech you may have to pay someone to take it as it will just take up storage space.

if you end up getting rid of it see if there are any organizations that take old computers. i have one around here and they always take old computer's and sell them for a small fee for anyone who cannot afford a new computer

I found a reference that says the orginal Gateway 3400 maxes out at 512MB of RAM.

I don't think any computer that old can use 2GB, but that is just my opinion.

It is more like a pizza... The older it gets the more it needs to be thrown out.

i said you will not see any significant improvement OVER 1GB NOT that XP is LIMITED to 1GB. windows XP maxes out at 4GB but that is beside the point. i doubt this computer could even support that much ram

32 bit Windows XP maxes out at ~4GB 64 bit XP maxes at 128GB. And since I ran 32 bit XP with everything from a PIII with 512MB to a 4GHZ E8400 with 4GB I still call stupid statement of the year on it not running better with more than 1GB. Even pre Service Pack 1 XP runs better with more than 1GB. Much less the bloated mess post SP 3 became.

Someone needs to learn what RAM is and does before making idiotic statements. If XP showed no improvements over 1GB then certainly there would be no reason for any program that would run on XP to recommend more than 1 GB of RAM right? Kid?

THANKS EVERYONE BUT YES THE CAPTAIN IS RIGHT ON THE 512MB AND IM GOING 2GB ON THE RAM AND IT IS WIRELESS AND YES IT DOES SHOW AND PLAY NETFLIX JUST FINE IT ALSO HAS TO DO WITH BIOS SETTINGS AND A LITTLE CONFIG, ITS A GOOD STARTER FOR A KIDDO IT WAS A GREAT COMPUTER FOR ME, I MAY JUST PUT STRAIGHT WINDOWS ON IT I PERSONALY THINK XP SUCKS, BETTER GRAPHICS FELLAS CHECK YOUR CARDS AND DRIVERS, ALL HAVE A GOOD ONE I WILL BE BACK WITH MORE LAP TOP QUESTIONS THANX
