Changing the DNS settings on your Roku device can help you access channels and services not available in your region. Roku’s basic network features do not allow you to set up DNS via the device, so the only way to change DNS settings is by setting up DNS on your router.
You will need to use one of the several Static IP Routing services on the internet. You can do so by following these simple steps.
1. Turn Off Router
Turn off your router so Roku cannot access the internet. This will help you reset Roku to make it accessible via a DNS proxy.
2. Open Roku ‘Settings’
Go to ‘Settings’ by scrolling down your Roku menu with the remote. Click the ‘Settings’ option to make it appear.
3. Go to ‘System Settings’
Scroll down to the ‘System Settings’ option on your Roku and select the ‘Advanced System Settings’ option. The ‘Advanced Settings’ option will open.
4. ‘Factory Reset’ Roku
Select the ‘Factory Reset’ option and enter the four digits you see on screen with your remote. This will authenticate the ‘Factory Reset’.
Press ‘OK’. Roku will now restart, and you will have to set it up again.
5. Log in to Your Network Router
Turn on your Router and log in using your computer. After the login, you will have to change the DNS.
6. Change ‘DNS Address’
Change the ‘Primary and Secondary DNS’ in your router settings in accordance to the DNS address provided by your Static IP Routing service. ‘Apply’ the changes. The system will take some time to upload the settings.
7. Log in to Static ‘IP Routing Service and Update IP’
Log into your Static IP Routing Service website and ‘Update’ your IP address. Your IP should be automatically detected, so you only need to add it to the network.
Some service providers also give software that allows you to automatically update your IP address on the network.
8. Connect Network VPN
Select the country you want to set your Roku to, and choose that country’s VPN in the VPN program/application on your computer. After connecting to it, you are all set to use your Roku.
9. Set Up Roku
Create a new ‘Roku Account’ using an ‘Address’ in the country you want to set it up through. Following the factory reset, set your Roku up by following the simple on-screen instructions.
Log in using your new Roku account. You can now add new channels and enjoy updated services.
The DNS settings on your Roku device will change after following the above steps.
