how to convert an iso image to a ghost image ?

Hi guys ..
YES i KNOW , .gho was for older versions of symantic 😀 and newer version use .v2i

The thing is I have an iso image of fedora and some machines simply doesn't boot from usb drive or takes a LONG time with DVD installation , I wanna use hirens but it has only ghost program which only reads .GHO image files.
any Ideas ?

You can't do this.

The Fedora ISO is a bootable media, not a backup media.

@Yasser - if I get you right, you want to use ISO and write it over a HDD partition?
Even if there was a tool for that, you would still need to boot **something** to fix partitions, GRUB etc.

If you insist of using Ghost - sacrifice a PC, install Fedora using your DVD, then make a .GHO file for later restore.

I am not talking about backing up MY pc , I am talking about installing fedora, Ubuntu or whatever OS on ANY pc using ghost in Hiren's (minixp) environment.

To do that I need a .GHO image to install...

also if i install OS on my HDD I'll need a tool to uninstall the basic drivers before making the ghost image.

so, any ideas ?

You don't install things using Ghost, it is a disk cloning tool. You need to burn the .iso to a DVD/CD and use that to do the installation.

That's right, but you clone a basic image (like iso) to another HDD (That's like installing). got my point ? 😉

No, it's not like installing. .iso is NOT a basic image that you can simply write to a hard drive and have a working system. You need to do as you've been told at least twice now and that is to burn the .iso to the appropriate media CD/DVD, boot it, and run the installer.

You've already been told:

1. Burn the .iso to a DVD
2. Boot the DVD
3. Run the installation contained on the DVD

You cannot use Ghost to do this no matter how much you want to.

You cannot use Ghost to 'install' an ISO to a new drive. No matter how much you want that to be true.

Download the ISO
Use that and create an install DVD or USB
Install that to a working PC
Now you can make a Ghost, or clone (CloneZilla?) of that actual installed OS. Write this to a USB or other external HDD.
Boot from the CloneZilla DVD and use that Clone to migrate to a new (identical) PC

i guess in theory you could use hiren's to run norton ghost and clone the drive through the hiren's mini OS. but you still need to make the basic ghost image. ghost on a bootable disk essentially does this, but then again you still need the ghost image which you will have to create by installing it on a system and making a ghost image of.

like many have said in different ways, norton ghost simply cant do what you are asking it to. there is no other way to look at it.

Ghost would be a very poor choice as it doesn't understand *nix filesystems and reverts to bit-by-bit cloning of an entire volume/drive. CloneZilla is a better choice, but it too has limitations, such as you cannot restore to a smaller volume than the source, and it does not resize a volume fill a larger drive.

1. Install the OS (via USB or DVD) to a PC
2. Create a boot disk (or USB, assuming the target PC can boot from USB) of your preferred cloning application (CloneZilla, DriveImageXML, TrueImge, whatever)
3. Use your preferred application to create an Image of that drive
4. Create this image to a large USB or external USB HDD

Now you can boot from the DVD in step 2 to migrate the image from step 4 to clone that image to the new PC. Assuming the hardware is pretty much the same.

Why are you trying to make this harder than it is?

Stop being snide. You've been given the answer several times in this thread.

Ghost is a disk cloning, backup, and restore program. It either creates a logical duplicate of the target partition, or restores it from an appropriate image format.

The .ISO file that you have is in the format of an installer, not an existing installation. You could run it, clone the resulting installation, and then restore that, but you cannot do that to the installer directly.
