My toshiba satellite l55 crashed, and I wasn't able to make a recovery disk. After wiping the hard drive, now I'm getting a message of checking media, and then a no bootable device -- please restart system.
It's not seeing the drive. If it did, the message would be "no OS found." You may need a new hard drive.
All a "recovery disc" is... is a Windows installation disc. You can use any installation disc of the same edition that is associated with your product key. Your product key is on the bottom of that laptop and probably reads "Windows 7 Home Premium" and lists the product key.
If you wiped the drive then that means there is no Operating System on the drive which means the hard drive isn't going to boot into anything.
You can see if you can look on eBay for a spare toshiba recovery disk, I'm sure there is one on there or you can purchase a copy of Windows 7 (or whatever OS you were using on the computer before all of this pa lava) and then re-download / install the drivers off of the TOSHIBA website.
