I have a large amount of pictures/home videos/ and music that id like to encrypt. I know you can create special encrypted volumes that you could then move the folders/items to. that seems like a lot of work though. I also know with 7zip i can just zip them all and encrypt it that way... but that zips them causing bad quality and other problems. Is there a way to just straight encrypt a folder that is currently there with its contents? I prefer aes 256 or better. thanks :)

zip is lossless, meaning you won't save any space but you will be able to store them.
from another toms answer: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261381-32-7zip-lossless-lossy
"Generic compression formats, like 7z, rar, and zip, contains file of any kind, so they must rely on lossless compression to guarantee any input bit is extracted exactly the same with no loss of information"
I would go with zip or rar, or both zip the files then rar the zip.
anything more any you will need special software....
