How to improve sound experience FPS games (Footstep and gunfire direction)

Hello,

I recently started getting into games like Counter-Strike and i noticed how sound impacts the gameplay in terms hearing where the enemies are at. I wanted to know what headset (with mic) and soundcard i should use for this. My budget is around £80/$100. Now lots of people say get Razer Kraken as they are good but then i think to myself that the headset on its own is worthless without a soundcard. Currently i was using tritton ax 180 but with them i felt no orientation in terms of where enemies are coming from plus they broke. So if anyone knows how do i achieve a good ability to hear where the enemies are coming from please do tell me.
