How to recover data from faulty HDD in Ubuntu

I have a laptop Asus with a hdd that gives me a lot of problems. Does not boot windows or repair tools so I managed to boot from a live ubuntu and the disk is not properly recognized. Any ideas on how to recover data from live ubuntu?
