I would like to repair the remote device that came with my Sony radio

From the sound of your post, you will not be able to do it. Anyone handy with electronics would put in details such as brand/model of the devices, what exactly is wrong with the remote and what was tried already. Find a replacement online or with Sony support.

take it to an electronics repair shop. It would probably be cheaper to just buy a universal remote - if you can fine one that will work with your model.
