how to stream from VLC to smart tv

I have a sony bravia 40hx755 and i can stream from WMP to the tv but can not do it from VLC. WMP can not read mkv files... Cannot find a single guide on the web about it. Help?

GOOGLE "wmp mkv" I got a bunch of hits.

wmp has a built-in DLNA server (how it talks to your TV), I don't believe VLC does.

if that doesn't work, GOOGLE "dlna mkv"
