How to test my local OTA HD reception?

I want to buy a plasma with a built in HD tuner. I think I should receive a
lot of over the air HD signals where I am, based upon my proximity to the HD
antennas of the local tv stations.

Before plunging into the plasma purchase, i want to test my HD reception.
So any suggestions? I have a InFocus LCD projector, so I was thinking of
purchasing a HD tuner and a indoor HD antenna and hooking it up to that to
see if I got good reception where I am.... then I could return the tuner,
once I tested it.

Any suggestions on the best indoor antenna and what tuner to get and where
from so I can return it easily? Or is there a better way for me to test my
reception?

If you have good analog reception, especially in the UHF frequencies, you
should be OK, assuming that the digital transmission towers are in the same
location as your local analog towers. If your analog reception is not snowy
or ghosting, you stand an excellent chance of having good HDTV reception.

You may want to wait just a little longer to purchase until you see plasmas
advertised with "Fifth Generation ATSC Tuner". These should be coming out
around the end of this year and get much better reception than current
tuners.

Do you have any neighbors with HD? I say to just ask one of them how their
reception is and if they've had any problems! I think you can get a HD
tuner from Walmart these days. I've always found returns very easy with
them. Just make sure you don't get one of the fifth generation tuners I
mentioned above (unless the plasma has it too) to test it out because it may
tune in the picture but the plasma might not!

A good indoor combo (VHF/UHF) antenna is a Zenith Silver Sensor $50..

A better outdoor antenna used indoors for VHF (6 thru 13) & UHF
(chan 14 thru 59) is a ChannelMaster 3021 4 bay bow tie $25....

Use RG-6 dual shielded antenna cable, not RG-59..

On Digital tuners the Walmart $198 unit should work...
SCans in channels but does not allow for manual chan input ??
IF ALL Digital Towers are on same 'hill', should work fine..

IF you need a 'Rotor', manual Digital chan input makes life easy..

New, better tuners that correct multipath probs out by Xmas??
