HP ENVY 15 Temperature

Hi All,

I recently purchased the HP ENVY 15 and while I was playing some games the laptop was hot to the touch even with a cooling pad underneath. So I downloaded HWMonitor to see what the temperatures were but before I got to launching the game I noticed that while on idle the AMD A8/A10 reported Packages temperature over 100 c.

Can anyone explain to me if this is something I should be worried about? Also my laptop just switched off (no bsod) for no reason maybe overheating?

If you just bought this and it is overheating, you need to take it back to where you bought it from or contact the manufacturer and get them to replace it with a functioning device.

No new laptop should do that.

This wasn't purchased brand new. But regardless I do have a 2 year warranty on it. There should be a way to fix the high temperatures surely. I am getting a proper cooling pad tomorrow which had 5 fans at 1200rpm.

A lot of temperature monitoring programs have problems with AMD temps. AMD doesn't report temperature directly - it reports margin from the thermal limit. A lot of programs seem to report this as the actual temp. Try using AMD Overdrive as described in this guide.
