HP NC6400 Card Reader Not Working

Today, my brother's HP NC6400's card reader suddenly stopped working. We tried multiple SDs to no avail. Should I reinstall the driver or something? Heard reports of the driver no HP site not working... so I'm a bit hesitant to try this... any suggestions?
