HP Pavilion 15-073ca max RAM

Why does HP set the max RAM for this laptop (Pavilion 15-e073ca) at 8 GB? Is this a limitation of the motherboard or because at the time of production there were no 8 GB modules around and they cannot assure that the modules will work? I'd like to upgrade to 16GB if possible but don't want to buy the RAM if they won't work. TIA.
