Your machine may be part of the NVIDIA Defective GPU litigation.

Check here to see if your system is included: http://fairnvidiasettlement.com

If you own a defective HP notebooks listed, or if you know someone who might own one, PLEASE COMPLETE an online form at http://fairnvidiasettlement.com/declaration !

NVIDIA is trying to short change HP class members by sending our inferior notebook substitutions, to the contrary to the court approved settlement language.

The Center for Class Action will be attempting seek relief from the court to get our fair valued notebooks.

As of February 19th, we need many more people to sign the declaration, so please hurry.

It sounds like you have the Nvidia graphics chip overheating problem, where over time, the heating and cooling of the laptop's motherboard and graphics chip causes the the solder connecting them to break, resulting in a laptop that wont boot up or even display to an external monitor. This is unfortunately very common with lots of people suffering the same problem. If you Google "HP Nvidia defect" you'll find pages of the same thing.

I presume it isn't still under warranty or you'd have taken that route already, so you could have a look at this website for more info... http://www.nvidiadefect.com/

It could be repairable but can be quite expensive buying and getting the replacement motherboard fitted or in some cases the solder between the motherboard and graphics chip can be reflowed (presuming the overheating hasn't permanently damaged to the chip ), which can be done by sending it to someone who specialises in this type of repair. There are other ways to reflow the GPU, like oven baking the board or using a heatgun but have varying degrees of success and probably only used as a last resort. (there are lots of videos on Youtube featuring the many ways of trying this)
