HyperX Cloud Core Microphone Not Working

I recently purchased a Cloud Core Headset from Best Buy and I got home and connected it and the Audio worked great. My Laptop has only a single audio/mic port with a headphone symbol and when I plugged it in my computer didn't pick it up or anything. I assumed that it would work since the plug has 3 rings and that means the mic and headphones ran through it. I have tried unplugging and plugging back in both the headset and the detachable mic. Nothing has worked. Please Help!!

for mobile devise, just use the single plug, for "computers" - use the dual plug adapter...

My computer has one plug on the side (It's a laptop) So I'm not sure if you are saying I should use the adapter that splits it and then rejoin it again with something I buy, or you think I have 2 ports.

I just downloaded skype and my mic started working.. LOL
