I cannot get my Dell E6400 to access any of the top icons on the number row so can't access the @. Have tried shift etc

All the buttons on the keyboard are working fine. I can change from low case to high case no problem what I can't do is access the @ which is over the 1 on the row of number buttons

Turn NumLock ON with <fn><NumLock>, then try holding down <Alt> while typing <0><6><4>

Your keyboard may be working, but you may have a worn-out ribbon cable that connects the keyboard to the laptop.

Have you tried using an external keyboard and testing "shift + 1," "shift + 2," etc?
