I cannot get the keyboard to work on my notebook so therefore cannot get past the password stage I havent used this for about

Need to be able to get into my notebook but cannot get past the password stage as the keyboard isnt working - not been used for about 18 months though

Hi,

Have you tried using an external USB keyboard? If it works normally using an external keyboard that could only mean that the built in keyboard is broken. Once you've successfully login inside Windows do try to uninstall/reinstall the keyboard driver and see if it will work or not. If it will still not work I would suggest replacing the keyboard itself.

Hi - Thank you for your reply but I do not have an external USB keyboard to try it will have to see if I can borrow one

If you are running Windows, in the bottom left hand corner of the password screen, there should be a symbol/icon of some sort. If you click on it, it should give you the option of using an onscreen keyboard, I think.
