I got a new DVD home theater system ( it was a gift ). I want to hear my TV through the system as well. The DVD has output only. How do I hook both the TV and DVD up to the speaker system?

If the DVD doesn't have a line input, you can't. Can you post the make and model or, better yet, a link to the manual?

The DVD has output only.

Then you can't.

In audio is very simple: Play hardware TV? (OUTPUT) ----> Amplifier hardware (INPUT). If you don't have that, ur dead.

Typically, home audios that have a HOME THEATER label are very limited, don't play well (don't have proper hookups) to your other equipment.

Did it come with a receipt?
