If the TV has an ATSC tuner built in then an antenna will work. If the TV doesn't have a tuner built in then you will need an external one.
How well will depend on where you are located. The higher up the antenna is the better. An amplified antenna will often work better than a passive on. An outdoor antenna, even if installed in an attic,will work better than just about any indoor antenna.
Check the TV manual on how to scan for channels. Until you do that you won't be able to tune in any channels.
