I have a receiver 6 to 16 ohm 7.1 and 8 ohm speakers. Is it ok to wire two speakers together at amp? Thanks for your time

It will be a lower impedance than the amp is rated. You will end up with a 3.7 ohm load (1/(1/8 + 1/7.1)) that is way lower than the minimum 6 ohm load the amp is rated. You could damage the amp. Especially if you play anything loud.

It might work if you put the speakers in series instead of parallel. The load would be 15.1 ohms.
