I have an old pioneer surround sound with rca cables.I have a new Samsung tv with hdmi ports, optical port and and arc how do I hook this up to the tv. thank you.

If you don't already realize, a new box update should be in your budget soon.

Meanwhile, you can get away with it by letting TV switch video, and let the old Pioneer switch audio. So for example:

Cable TV box ------- (HDMI)--------> TV
Cable TV box ------- (optical or analog) --------> Pioneer.

I have a similar setup in my home theater. If you don't want to pay for a cable box (I use an antenna) , you can purchase an HDMI-to-RCA adapter at a brick-and-mortar or online electronics store, connect the one end of the HDMI cable to your TV, the other end to the adapter, connect RCA cables to the adapter at one end and the other to your receiver. Any unused input, except phono (optimized for MMC turntable output) , will work.

You will need to purchase an optical to analog converter like the one linked to above.
Check the TV audio menu to make sure you can set it to PCM stereo output. If you can't then you will need a converter that accepts 5.1 bitstream.
The DAC connects to the optical output of the TV with a Toslink optical cable. You may need to turn the optical output on and the TV speakers off in that TV audio menu.
The output of the DAC will connect to any input of the receiver (except Phono) with RCA stereo cables.
