I have been unable to connect my macbook to a new samsung 4k tv. I tried connecting it with a HDMI cable. the picture appeared for a spilt second and since that a 'no signal' message is all that appears on the tv screen. There are three HDMI ports in the TV, ARC, MHL, and DVI. None of these work for the laptop although they do work for chromecast.

Any help, info, tips or ideas would be great!!

You should try setting the TV as your second screen and setting the resolution of that screen to 1920 x 1080.
I would also try changing the order that you turn on the macbook and the TV. Sometimes the input has to be selected and then the computer booted and other times the reverse.
The HDMI cable you are using can also affect this.
