Riiiiiiight... what are the specific components you’re trying to connect and with what cables.

The first games predated av input so they would plug into the antenna jack of the TV and play on channel 3 or 4.
When TVs got AV inputs games would connect to there. Check your TV manual on how to use the composite video plus audio input if it has one. If it doesn't you would need an active AV to HDMI converter.
