last week I opened my notebook to clean it, then I closed it and it worked fine. Then yesterday I disassembled again but this time the notebook won't boot. When I press the power button the fan doesn't start (it isn't obstructed by anything) , the screen is off, and the speakers are doing some strange little noises.
The notebook is acer 5750g

Solution
You don't need a clip really, but if you use an ESD wristband, you can clip it to a piece of metal (or any material that excels in electrical conduction). Standing on a hard surface, such as concrete or tile, also will help in grounding yourself.
If you were not grounded, you may have caused ESD damage to the board. It's subtle, and sometimes kills components slowly. Other times, you see immediate failure from it.

In the case of ESD damage: no. But that is assuming ESD damage is the cause. Your problem could be related to something else, like a bad circuit or solder joints that need reflowed.
