Im trying to hook up regular speaker to phone using the external plug but the wires are like cloth in the center with red blue and copper

for clarification:

what kind of speakers are you talking about? regular home theater speakers which use speaker wire connections? pc speakers? powered or unpowered?

you need to clarify what you're trying to hook up to the phones 3.5mm jack as different kinds of speakers need different hook ups.
