Install Office to Alternate Drive

Hi, I did some searching and did not come up with much. Id like to install MSOffice to my 500GB Raptor(R to save space and not bog down my 250GB SSD(C: - Win 7 OS)

I noticed the default installation location for Office is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office

If I want it to go to my (R Drive, do I need to move the Program Files (x86) there to do that or can I just dump it in the R drive? Does a file need to be created ahead of time?

This may be simpler than Im making it but Id like to avoid additional registry entries through trial and error if possible.

During the install, don't accept the default location.
I forget the exact deal with Office, but choose 'Custom' or 'Advanced', and specify the drive and folder where you want it to go. No registry editing needed.
As it is with most applications.

Program Files and Prgoram Files (x86) are just the default locations. You don't have to accept them. And don't 'move them to elsewhere'.

Specifically (Office 2010, but similar with all others)

setup.exe
enter admin pwd
Office dialog appears
Continue...
I Accept
Select Customize
File Location tab
Browse to where you want it
Install now
Go...

In actual fact, though...Office is not as large as you might think. 3GB maybe. Not a real burden on a 256gb drive.
I originally had the same thought, and initially installed it on another drive. But after a recent full reinstall, I put it on the boot SSD (128gb). It doesn't take up that much space.

Interesting, there must have been a reason for the revert.

What were the issues you ran into?

No problem issues, but:
I have 2 x SSDs, (both 128gb) a Sandisk and a Kingston. I realized that my original OS SSD, the Sandisk, was an older SATA II drive (did not realize last year when I bought it). As I was planning a full reinstall anyway, on to the Kingston HyperX.
Win8Pro, and all applications (bar games) on the 128. ~47gb used space.

The older SanDisk is now serving duty as the secondary drive, hosting working docs and download stuff.
Still blindingly fast.
