A couple of days ago, the shield appeared in my system tray wanting
to install updates. It was either wanting to upgrade IE7 to IE8 or else
I already had IE8 and it was trying to install an IE8 update, not sure
which. In any case, after I allowed it to install its updates, I have not
been able to get IE to start.
I have tried invoking IE every way I can think of - from the shortcut on
my desktop, from Start -> Run, going into My Computer and navigating
to the executable, from a hyperlink in one of my Eudora emails - nothing
seems to work. When I try to run IE, the Windows pointer changes to
an hourglass for a short time, then turns back to the pointer and nothing
else happens.
I did a Google search for this problem and tried several of the recommended
fixes but nothing has worked. Things I have tried so far:
- restarted the machine
- registered several DLLs
- checked Task Manager for iexplore.exe after I try to invoke it. Not there.
- reverted back to IE7
- did a full system scan in Norton Anti Virus. Nothing found.
I know I can use another tool like Firefox, but I would really rather get this
working. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Robert
