ipaq 4150 security

I am thinking of using my IPAQ for data that would be confidential. How
well can you protect documents from people reading them if the IPAQ got
stolen? Can you put passwords on the start up of the IPAQ, and on
PocketWord?

Hi Steve,


There is a security feature in the ipaq 4150 ( Start -> Settings ->
Password) to enable startup password on the ipaq. This will help prevent
unauthorized access depending on the settings chosen. The password
protection feature is not available in Pocket Word. If you try
synchronizing a password protected Word file to your ipaq, you will receive
an unresolved item error message.

For password protect documents, you will need to use third party
applications ---

My 4150 came with some security software but i dont know how good it
is. I use PGP on mine but that might be a bit OTT for you.

I also saw a nice application which uses pictures (you tap them in
sequenc) to unlock your PDA. The pictures move location each time you
turn your pda on so it is pretty secure.

And what exactly is the OS level security in the PPC OS? Hope you are not
thinking of the Power-on Password. If so, I assume you are not storing
anything on a flash memory card.

There's also NMS security which protects the memory card as well as the pda.
You can read about it and buy from http/www.newmediasecurity.com/

They have released a free copy of one version on at least one UK magazine
cover disk recently.
