i seem to be having some troubles trying to identify the model of my ipaq,
it only says "H3800 Series" at the back of the device. and i have to get the
original ROM file for it, the image shown on the Compaq web site on how to
identify the model is not exactly the label i have on the back of my ipaq,
so it won't give much help, i only have a S/N but no model, and if anyone
knows where to get the original ROM fila (PPC 2002) 'cos i've updated it to
PPC 2003 and now i'm tring to sale the damn thing and the guy want it as
original as it came on the box... so....

any help?
thanks

If you go to SETTINGS-->SYSTEM-->ASSET VIEWER-->SYSTEM it should tell you
exactly what it is. Also if you still have the box its on the white label
with the bar code on it. Not sure if its also hidden under the battery like
the later ones.
Now getting the original ROM might not be so easy....Can't you convince
the person its a better deal with the updated ROM ?

the rom with an entire new one.... the rom upgrade was intended for th
3870.... with bluetooth......but it doesn't respond to any bluetooth

I figured Asset viewer would give you all you need, cannot figure why its
empty ? Let me do some looking around and see if I can find it, someone had
posted some files that had the info and also a trick to read the BIOS.
Sounds like you have a picky buyer...

OK, but how do you know it's not 3815 or 3825, they do exist in the compaq
website....

and if so, isn't there some web site were you can put the S/N and it tells
you every thing? i mean.... isn't this S/N unique for every device produced?
coldn't you be able to do that ?

thanks.

Those sub divisions under the model (38xx) generally reference the
"bundle" contents... for example if the unit was sold with cradle, cable
or or both, or with a sleeve or not.

Except for the bluetooth yes/no, the device itself was the same when
sold with different model numbers.

The 3830 had 32MB RAM/32 MB ROM. The other 3800s had 64/32.
Same with the 3730 vs. 3760, though those were a rare breed.
Beware the '30s.

Why not try contacting Compaq. They'd know if anyone does.

That was going to be my next suggestion. Here is the direct Link for the
3800 Series.
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Home.jsp?locale=en_US&prodTypeId=215348&prodSeriesId=96481

At least it seems that most of the ROM updates are shared in the 3800 series
at least for the following models.
iPAQ H3815, H3830, H3835, H3845 and H3850. Looks like the 387X series get
different ones. But first thing is to find out what model it really is !

Shure thing that....but..... gessing every thing in this post it's correct,
mine has 64/32 MB and i'm gessing bluetooth is of the question ('cos i try
to turn it on and it keeps showing errors, speeking about that, do you
necesarelly have to have some bluetooth device near to turn it on or will it
keep looking but look like it's on) taking all this i think i have a
3850....... and suposing this is correct, i still need to find te original
rom for it, not an upgrade or anything, just the one that came with it from
factory.....

any help would be apritiated

Nacho
