Irritating! Please help!

I have seen other questions like mine, but still no actual answer to make the SD card on an Android work! Please help!
I have a brand new SD card with tons of space, but anytime I try to download an app it says I have no storage space-which of course on the phone's memory I don't. I have the settings to USE the SD card.
It's an Android 4.4
ANYONE HAVE A RESOLUTION?

This feature (use of SD cards for apps) was removed around Android 4.2-ish. It is not an officially supported feature on 4.4.

Then why does the phone (new) have the slot for the card?

For media files: pictures, videos, general storage. Android 6.0 also returns the ability to use SD cards for apps I believe, but most phones don't have/won't get that update.
