Hi there, my cpu is not giving it's best, i only get 1.20 ghz on a 2.26ghz core 2 duo p8400 processor. What i think is that this issue is because of less power provided to my Dell Precision M6400, which i am using without battery (just like an desktop), my current charger is of Brand: LG Volt: 19.5 Ampere: 5.62 . Which means 110Watt but amazon and other e-commerce websites are selling a 210W AC adapter for my laptop. But that much watt are for charging + using laptop, while i only use i don't have battery installed, i tried disabling speed step but it give 1.70Ghz sometimes. Is there any issue if i provided 210watt? will it damage? or will it give best performance as it should give according to (users reviews).

There is a reply to a post on Tomshardware about checking SpeedStep in the BIOS to make sure it's enabled. I have not though of that feature in a long time, but that can limit the CPU speeds.

Yes, it's a must that SpeedStep be turned on in the BIOS for proper operation, this is what makes the CPU 'shift gears', so to speak. Make sure you have the latest BIOS for your computer installed. Dell tends to be one of the better ones to have BIOS & driver updates available. Just don't mess with the automated software offered, manual checks are best.

Visit the Dell Drivers page (2nd link below) & enter your Express Service Code, which should be somewhere on the computer. Maybe behind battery on notebook. Can also be obtained via Belarc Advisor, will be near top of report.
