Is amp necessary if home system puts out 1000 watts at 3 ohms?

My home system is 3 ohms at 1000watts, do I need to get a amplifier to hook up my subs, I am going to wire them down to 4 ohms. thank you for your time and help with my project.

The OP said he was going to wire the speaker(s) up to be 4 ohm load and said the amp was 3 ohm capable. On paper it should be OK. BUT, I will say that amps that are 3 ohm amps tend to be lower quality units sold as part of a home theater unit. I could be wrong in this case, but that has been my experience.

You can certainly try it but HTS systems usually have wildly overrated power specs so don't be surprise if it won't drive the subs well or loud.
