Is avg free good?

so i ahve some problems with my current antivirus, giving me lag ect.. will avg free be good enough to protect my pc, im thinking of installing it because in a few days ill be doing a fresh install of win 7.

Yes, the free AVG is good, as is the free MS Security Essentials.

Just avoid the all around type products like Norton 360, that IMO take too much CPU power and time and don't really do anything better.

BEST FREE ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE:

Avast is free and effective, it scans your downloads for viruses (unlike AVG) and also includes anti-rootkit and anti-spyware, it can also run a boot scan.

To be honest the best free antivirus I've found is Unthreat Antivirus so maybe you should try that. It doesn't jam my computer when running and it was really easy to configure and install.

AVG was, is and will continue being a good antivirus program. I used it for almost 7-8 years. Actually, this is not my opinion only. If you check AVG's article on Wikipedia , you can see that some of the biggest download portals have rated it with five stars. I believe that there is a reason for that.
