Bullets don't kill people. Bleeding and internal organ destruction kills them. Bullets just penetrate and displace tissue.
 
I'm not sure what other countries have. But here in NZ we have medical bracelets or "medic alerts". The key could be printed on those.

They should make the pacemakers with two antenas so it can triangulate the position of the person trying to access it, then write a code to limit access to within 3 feet. Another option would be to have it unlock only in the presence of a certain chemical in the blood. When the doctor needs access just inject a special non toxic chemical and once it is detected by the pacemaker then the pacemaker activates its wifi for the wand. Last idea, instead of using wifi, put a small light or magnetic sensor just under the skin and use that to access it instead of wifi.
 
How about this for an idea.

Encrypt the pacemaker and embed a low power RFID tag into it.
On this RFID tag you could have an encryption key or hash stored that would be accessible in an emergency, but only at extremely short range.

This would give you protection against a generic 'blanket style' attack while still being flexible enough to allow for emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
 
Thoroughly disgusting, but sooner or later someone would use this to blackmail and control another person. A terrorist might use it for their trade, but other criminals might use it to make you steal stuff they couldn't gain access to otherwise. Just imagine someone contacts you, speeds up the device or slows it down and threatens to kill you if you don't divulge corporate secrets, stock tips or otherwise hand over information. The pacemaker probably doesn't keep detailed logs. Imagine trying to prove how you were blackmailed to the authorities? Talk about a crime that leaves no fingerprints.

Catching and convicting the b*$terd that uses this would be difficult. When you do you want to make sure they can never do it again.
 
The thing about jamming is that there's always methods to counter it, even if those techniques take a while to become available. For more info, google ECCM.
 
I used to work in the industry and am very familiar with the technology. This is nothing but fear mongering by uninformed researchers not in the industry. The old way (and still in use on all pacemakers, of programing a device required a programming head that has a magnet to be placed in very close distance to the skin over the device. The new way allows communication without a magnet at distances upto 15 meters. The programming frequencies are restricted use by the government and the communication protocals, and device memory maps are propriatory. Hacking a device would be very dificult for those skilled in the devices and would involve special equipment most people would not understand. As a side note It would be easy for the device manufactures to disable distence telemetry mode for those who are super parinoid.

This is just fear mongering for potential financial gain by the researchers who probably fired a patent on their idea.
