Keyboard constantly types

Whenever I click in a text field, the space immediately starts to fill with "."s, as if the key we're being held down. If I hit any other buttons while the periods are being added, it stops, but starts immediately whenever I hit backspace. Please help me. I am on an Asus laptop, Windows 7, with a "Standard PS/2 Keyboard".

I hate to be Captain Obvious but it sounds like you need a new keybd.
