Keyboard shift button + letter highlights letters instead of capitalising.

I have a new HP Envy 15-ae109na laptop. After only a couple of months, I have a keyboard issue. Every time I press the shift button to capitalise a letter, it highlights all thosev letters in the document, and the cursor jumps to one of those. Makes it virtually impossible to type, This happens in all apps, so I guess it's a keyboard configuration issue.Help!

1. Delete the keyboard driver.
2. Reboot the computer (yes, without reinstalling the driver).
3. When the computer reloads, it should reinstall the driver on its own.

Tried that - still not working. I notice that everytime I try to capitalise, the relevant letter comes up in a strange box top right of my screen. I'd like to send a screenshot, but can't see how to attach it here.

You would have to upload the image somewhere and then paste the URL to the image in your reply with

["img"]URL to Image["/img"]

before and after the link. Without the quote marks, I just added them so you could see the code to use.

Now you've REALLY left me behind! I haven't a clue what you mean, sorry! Where do I upload it to? I've saved the image on my laptop. How about if I give you a Dropbox link to it?

So every time I use Shift to capitalise, I get that particular letter highlighted throughout the document, and a small box appears top right of my screen with the letter shown in it, and a number! You will see that effect in this screenshot. Thanks.

OK so is this only happening in the browser then? And where are you typing the letters that are getting highlighted? It looks like you are typing the info in a search field. If the field is the document search that that is actually how it should react. Is something else going on then that I am missing?

No, I just sent that page as an example. It happens to anything I type on the keyboard, in any app - browser, Whatsapp, Word, Excel etc. Whener I capitalise using Shift, it highlights that letter in the entire page or document, and that little box you seen in the screenshot top right appears, with the letter in question, and a number! This is so weird! I;ve deleted and reloaded keyboard drivers, and done a system restore.

Are you sure you haven't turned on "Sticky Keys"?

To check go to ... "Control Panel" then "Ease of Access Center". Now scroll down and click "Make the keyboard easier to use" and check what is 'checked' and what isn't. Is "Sticky Keys" checked? I would go through the options there and make sure nothing is turned on that you don't want/need.

Thanks. Just unticked everything there, but still no change! What is relevance of the little box on the top right, which comes up everytime I press Shift + a letter (or indeed, any keyboard figure at all)? It contains the letters I typed since the shift action, and some numbers: x of x. It's almost as if it is an edit box, started by using Shift. At the same time, the letter or figure I pressed with the Shift, becomes highlighted throughout the document or page. Does that make sense?

Also you can try the following, but only after you have rebooted to see if it is resolved. Just unchecking things doesn't always activate the change.

1. Hold down RIGHT SHIFT KEY for 8 seconds to bring up FilterKey popup
2. Click on SETTINGS
3. Under the Keyboard tab go to Filter Keys and click on SETTINGS
4. Under Keyboard Shortcut click on the box USE SHORTCUT to remove check
5. Click OK
6. At the bottom of the Accessibility Options box click APPLY then OK.
7. Press both SHIFT KEYS to deactivate changes.



Keyboard should now return to normal mode and if you hold down shift key for 8 seconds or more you should never have this problem again.mark

Hi. I'm now confused, as I went into Ease of Access earlier and unclicked everything. So now when I press right shift for 8 secs as you suggest, nothing happens! Could you please send me a screen shot to show exactly what should & should not be checked? Sorry to be a nuisance, but I really don't understand these settings!
