Question Laptop advice

I'm a researcher and I use an incredibly old Toshiba Satellite Pro, which is coming to the end of its' days.

I'm online a large part of the day, use a large number of PDFs, quite a few images although few files, and need something tough and durable because it has to travel a bit.

I could really use some advice on what's good to buy these days - needs to be able to counter for poor eyesight as well!
