laptop battery says it has 58 mins left but 5 mins later it shuts off

I have a hp pavillion dv6 notebook pc and whenever i take it off charging the battery drains. I had 58 mins of battery left and 5 mins later the laptop shuts off. The laptop also runs really slow and i am wondering if that has to take any part in the battery usage.

laptops generally run slow and the battery probably needs to replaced
