This happened since last yr I think. I just remember to post this. I just tried reformatting now, and it's still beeping like "Beep,beep,beep....and so on".

Is it the Hard drive?

Solution

If its not memory failure then hard disk is the second thing that will need some testing. And as you mentioned it won't test the HDD it must be giving some error code on that. That code will help. But as you have mentioned that you just installed Windows 8 I don't think its the HDD.

I couldn't find the beep code you mentioned for any HP product. You can also check the LED light. The LED lights near the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys will blink if an error is detected during the start up process. The LEDs will blink a number of times in a sequence and then stop. So if the HDD is alright I suggest you to check the LEDs...

Beep codes are used by the BIOS during the POST to report certain initial system errors. Listen very carefully to the beep codes that sound when the computer begins to boot. Write down, in whatever way makes sense to you, how the beeps sound. Important: Pay close attention to the number of beeps, if the beeps are long or short and if the beeping repeats or not. There is a big difference between a "beep-beep-beep" beep code and a "beep-beep" beep code. What steps you take to solve a particular beep code will differ depending on the laptop manufacturer. So posting your laptop make year and model is also required.

Well, I manage to fix it by closing the led(monitor) down. It's a long beeeeeeep then beep-beep-beep. I think it repeats itself. Should I flash the BIOS? I upgraded to Windows 8 just to be sure.

Beep codes depend on the laptop manufacturers. For some it may be a memory problem, for others it can be a hard disk problem. So if you'll post your manufacturer, BIOS version and year of making I may be able to determine what does it mean.

PS You can try removing one of the RAM and booting (If you have 2 RAMs) so as to eliminate possibility of defective RAM.
