Hello, I am trying to make a deal with my roommate for an old laptop. He wants a new laptop that costs ~$600 with great sound. I am trying to hook him up. He will be getting a USB interface, but in the meantime I am looking for something that has:

The built-in speaker quality isn't that important. It doesn't need 5.1 or fancy connectors or software. It just needs to be a good-sounding chipset that would be decent for recording.
