Hello, my laptop starts ( i hear the fan very loudly ) but that's it.
The screen stays black, no led lights.

It started while gaming with a sudden shut down. Starting up again, all was fine. The day after it happened again, i did a disccheck but it went out again and never revived.
After that it couldn't start up anymore at all. ( not even the pwr button or fan wroked then)
I thought the dc jack or motherboard - the adapter was fine, enough Volt. 2 days later it started up again, but the only led light it gives me is the charging battery ( and hte powerbutton light ), I hear the fan and nothing more.

The 2 ram's i reseated, swapped HDD with other laptop - all worked fine in there. I did the remove batter and pwr thingie and drain the pwr with holding the button for 30 sec etc.
The screen is black and nothing to see in background.
With a hdmi cable i put the laptop in connection with television but still a black screen.

Share your thoughts pls :) I feel stuck here atm...

Btw: its a BTO laptop - 15M39 ( about same as MS-16F2 ) Nvidia GTX570m, 8gb, i7-2670 6mb 2,2 gHz) 686 Amibios 1999 moederbord. Mar met nieuwe HDD ( vorige stierf verleden jaar ).

Solution
Hi there,
like many graphics cards the heat is playing a big role in this issue !
first of all: check the airflow of the fan, is there dust in it. this is usually the cause of heat building up !

If your pc works again in a cold environment then we know it's the graphics card !
I repaired this issue a few times, but it's a risky undertaking.

The way I repaired is to remove the GPU-card (if possible) and put it in the oven for 8 minutes at 195° (best to measure with some good equipment).
If the GPU is onboard I used a heat gun and measure the temp on the bottom (other side) of the chip.

I have some other threads where I explained this already...

@ hang the 9 - Ty for your answer - I'm figuring out if I should test with a new motherboard or gfx card or cpu or... checking here first what you guys think i should purchase first to replace. Atm i guess gfx card or motherboad? any tips how to test the difference what exactly broke?
@Louise Tnx for the link ill check it out and read about it but was abit afraid to burn a card, to find out in the end the card was ok :)
I purchased and assembled this laptop with a not integrated gfx card to up it later on, but now I'm kinda stuk also here, as i have no clue what card i can put on this motherboard - the ones im sure of, I couldn't find anymore GTX 460m 560m or 570m - alieexpress sold one for 499$ if i remember correct ... bit to high for an older card imo?

So any idea how to check what card fits my motherboard? where to buy older cards if only those fit? and how to check if its really the motherboard or the gfx card?

Btw tnx alot already for your time and efforts! I didnt expect answers this fast and I feel like there might be a solution after all :)

I took out the fan and cleaned it all properly.
But there is no chance of heat atm as nothing is working except the fan. Everything stays the same when I even turn it on with the CMOS disconnected, RAM's out, gfx card out, HDD out,... its like the whole laptop only powers up the fan only.

Hi, I contacted a laptopexpert - he assumes its the gpu chip and will test all first. If he is right he will put a new chip on my gfx card. I hope that will work, but it will cost me 240 euro. If the gfx chip is the problem, that is :) I guess that's a good deal, I hope it will work like new again then :)

Oh I am from Belgium :) The guy told me heating up wouldn't fix the problem perma though - I would experience the same problems in a month or 2, ... . Even so, He is goiing to measure all the components out first to see if that's really the only problem, then he contacts me and i pay 42 euro for that only. Then he let's me decide if he will repair and what the costs are in total.
So I might still need you after all Louise :) I live close to the west-coast btw 😉 Where about do you live? or pm ^^

Btw I just received the solution: northbridge broken - he can replace the chip on the montherboard, 240€ + 21% tax = 290 €. Videochip and card seems ok, so good thing i guess :) I wonder if I could replace that chip myself though ?

That is a lot cheaper than a new laptop, if the chip is soldered on, a lot harder to replace, plus if you get the wrong part or damage something while doing it, you are done. If he does something bad, in theory he would fix whatever got broken.

Yeah, tnx for all the replies here, I took the laptop back, without repairing it yet... I decided I'm quiting all the gaming ( 36 now :s getting to old ^^ ) and ill try sell it for the parts. Or someone who might repair the chip, we'll see... Tnx for all the help guys and girls! I appreciate it!
