My Acer notebook had geniune windows 7 installed and working fine. I upgraded to windows 10 and still worked fine for some time and then it started to get stuck at start up. There was a continous beep while windows was trying to load but it will boot up after 3 4 minutes and faster if I interupt by pressing any key. I have disassembled my laptop for cleanup and replacing the screen earlier and checked for loose RAM or a stuck key. There were none. Then it got stuck at boot device selection menu without booting windows. I used the recovery CDs to put back windows 7 (I wanted it back) to see if reinstalling an OS would fix any disk errors. Now the beeping is gone but still does not boot directly into windows but I have to manually select boot device each time at startup. tried startup repair and it says there are no errors. Checked disks using chkdsk. Tried fixmbr and nothing happened. Please help.

So if I have this right you seem to be able to boot in to windows now except you're having to select this from boot menu and you wish it to go straight in without user intervention?
If so are you able to disable this function as an option in your bios? There should be and option in bois, then save and exit.

Hi,thanks for the response.
Yeas. It boot up correct aftrer selecting the boot option and everything works fine but I want it to boot directly to windows.
If i disable the f12 menu from bios then the beeping begins and im at the beginning f d problem.
Any idea what causes this problem? I read somewhere that the machine takes time to ffigure out the boot configuration and thus the beeping is a false alarm and jumping to f12 menu to find an escape route. My laptop indeed has slowed down over time.

Have you tried swapping your Ram sticks if you have two if not thy using only one stick at a time one maybe faulty, also try removing hard drive and then re-inserting again make sure no pins get bent.
Did you try removing battery and doing a hard reset to clear residual static.
