Laptop hang up

Hello,
My thinkpad T42 hangs up after 1min after starting.I consulted a technician and he told me thati need to change my mother board.Where can i purchse motherboard.I purchased it for $1500 from IBM.How much the motherboard costs?Please help me.

Replacing the mobo is not too difficult. Several sites are available for the parts needed. Googling "thinkpad t42 system board" will provide everal sources.

What you are describing sounds like a heat or power problem. Have you used a can of compressed air to blow the dust out of the input and output fan ports?
