Laptop Hard Drive Data Retrieval

Hello everybody, my girlfriend asked me if I could retrieve data from her old laptop with keyboard, display and battery issues, hindering her any access. Now I searched online about data retrieval and one useful info is to buy a SATA/IDE to USB 3.0 adapter to do the job.

My question is this, will there be any sort of conflict since the hard drive I'm gonna get data from has an OS installed, a cracked Windows 7 at that? Will my PC recognize the hard drive assuming that it's still in good condition?

By the way, just to clarify, I don't have the adapter just yet.

It shouldn't be a problem. Just to be safe ... whenever I want to use an external hard drive with an OS on it ... I boot up the pc I'm using before I plug the external HDD in.

Ummm it's not a good idea to advertise the fact that you or her stole Windows 7 and now you want help with the stolen goods. http/www.tomshardware.com/forum/19-73-forum-rules-read-first That's actually illegal. Everybody does it but it isn't right nor am I preaching. Just a little info.

I know that and no, I am not helping her so she could continue using a non-genuine Windows OS. I'm sorry I forgot to add, after I'm done extracting/retrieving her files, I will then format her laptop's HDD so I could use it as a 2nd drive for my own laptop.
