I have a dead laptop whose LCD I know is intact. Is there anyway
to use this lcd with a computer to control it? Where could I go
and read about this?

It's likely not worth the effort/expense/aggravation.
Go to EBAY, sell it, buy a desktop LCD. Use the leftover
money to buy a new toy.

Actually, people will buy ANYTHING on ebay.
But they'll also buy a good lcd all by itself for BIG bux...
assuming it fits a desirable model.

Basically you have to design an interface for it. One those deals where if
you have to ask then you don't have the training and experience and tools
necessary to do it.

One approach is to find out the partnumber of the lcd. Usually, it comes
with some kind of controller that might even have a vga compatible
input. Google the partnumber and try to find the data sheets of that
controller.

Has the same problem as using it for any other purpose--you still need to
figure out the interface, which is almost certainly not VGA or DVI.

If you go on E-Bay, you will find people selling dead hard drives,
described honestly as dead, and they get bids.

Now those are, generally, useless.

But a "dead" laptop can have a lot of good parts in it. A "dead" laptop
could have:

-motherboard
-CPU
-CD-ROM drive
-Hard drive
-LCD
-LCD Inverter
-Keyboard
-Memory
-Battery
-Power supply
-Floppy drive (some models)
-Cooling fans & heatsinks
-Case parts
-Speakers
-etc.

Yes, people buy broken laptops, and in this case with good reason.
Sometimes broken laptops will go for $300 or more.
