Question Laptop microphone noise in Zoom ; Goes away on Mute

After I assembled my laptop (fixed another issue), I am hearing constant crackling noise.

It is very annoying sound for the people on the other side of the video conference. When I mute on my end, the sound goes away completely for people on the other side. Does it indicate an issue with the microphone?

What could have caused it?

My hunch is that I probably did not route the audio cables correctly. Is there a chance of magnetic interference possible?

I would agree with your hunch. It's also possible that a connector is loose or just plain broken. Have you tried using an external mic/headphone setup to see if the issue still exists?

yes..even with external mc / speaker the issue exists.
