Laptop screen backlight works but it wont show any image.

So I have a dell Inspiron N5110 and when i power it on the backlight lights up the screen but it shows no image. When I connect it to an external monitor it turns of the backlight but the external monitor works perfectly. i press Fn F1 and it turns off the external monitor and turns on the back light of the laptop again but with no image. Is this a bad gpu? Or would the external monitor not work either if the gpu was bad? Maybe its the cables? Any help would be greatly welcomed.

sounds like a bad or loose cable going tot he display panel to me. Did someone have it open? or drop it?

Not that I recall. It was working just fine last night and then in the morning it simply didnt show any image. I did open it after this and everything is fine. Ram is fine, Hdd is fine. So a cable could have shorted out or something? I try replacing those?
