Laptop Speaker doesn't work

I dunno how to describe this, but on my laptop, my built-in speakers are split to two sides, left and right. Weirdly enough, just after I restarted my laptop, my built-in speakers and headphones don't work anymore! When I plug in any earbuds, or headphones, all I hear are crackling sounds and the earphones are not registered by the laptop. My right speaker is also really, really hot compared to the left one when I turn on my laptop, which I think has something to do with it. I've tried updating my audio drivers, letting my laptop rest to cool down the right speaker (but immediately turns hot again), and basically anything I've read. Is there some way to fix this at home or do I have to take this to a shop?
