I have an Asus laptop running a Windows 8 and back in August the screen went White and wouldn't work anymore. This didn't really matter as we could use it through our TV. However, last night I turned it off after it crashed and when I turned it back on moments later I found that it no longer showed a picture through hdmi. I have also tried a pc/vga lead and that doesn't work either. The laptop starts up fine and you can hear it running, it just won't connect to hdmi. As I can't use the laptop screen I can't tell what's wrong with it or change the settings. Is there a way to get it to work through hdmi again?

Solution
If there's nothing through a VGA lead either, it very likely the laptop's graphics adapter that has failed.

But first check your laptop's keyboard to see if there's a key to toggle external monitor on/off (it's usually an Fn combo-key).
